The awards recognize excellence in both editorial and design. The specific genre categories are judged by three industry professionals, coming from the library, bookstore, reviewer, designer, publicity and editorial markets. The comments from these judges are returned to all participants at the completion of the competition. This awards program is the only one that allows you to receive direct comments from the people who will make the buying and/or review decisions on your product. To assist our judges in the Herculean task of judging titles and to ensure they have enough time to review each book, we have two separate call for entries. The first call for titles published January 1 through June 30, 2006 has a deadline of August 31.
The second call for entries is primarily for books published between July 1 and December 31, 2006, but we will also accept all titles that carry a 2006 copyright in the Second Call.
All finalists will be displayed during the Publishing University and at the Awards Ceremony and all winners will be displayed in a special booth at BookExpo America at the Javits Center in New York City in June 2007. Winners and finalists will also be featured on the PMA website.
All PMA members and Benjamin Franklin participants will be invited to celebrate with us at the gala Awards Ceremony in New York City in May 2007. We look forward to recognizing and cheering on the publishers who set the standards of excellence within our community.
