The Rest of Us 2003
The Rest of Us 2003 is an eye-opening new re p o rt on America’s smaller, independent book publishers. It is based on data gathered through a publisher survey conducted for the Publishers Marketing Association in 2002. The original The Rest of Us publication was issued in 1998, and it was based on a 1997 publisher survey. The format of each question in the 2003 report replicates that of the 1998 report. A few questions were deleted for the new survey.

Marketing is one of the primary concerns of all publishers, but especially for members of the Publishers Marketing Association. In an effort to determine how and where publishers use their marketing dollars, and the amount and percentage allocated to marketing, IBPA has sponsored a survey of its members.

IBPA Salary Survey 2001
IBPA's first annual salary survey provides publishers at all revenue levels with the means to benchmark the salaries they pay employees in a wide variety of positions with those of their peer publishers. This survey is the first to look at publishing salaries and benefits from the standpoint of a company's Revenue size and Geographical location. The results submitted by the total 6,000 publisher mailing provide a broad-based look at the salaries and benefits provided by a wide variety of publishers at all size levels.

The Rest of Us
The Rest of Us is the first study of America's 53,000+ Independent, Smaller book Publishers. As a joint project of the Book Industry Study Group and the Publishers Marketing Association, this study explores the small the small-publisher universe. This study offers detailed information on staying power, sales channels and a variety of other categories that show what smaller publishers are doing and earning.

Industry White Papers Report: Sales Representation & Distribution Options for Independent Publishers
This report provides smaller and medium-sized publishers with a basis of comparison with which to view and analyze sales options. It discusses a variety of primary trade sales options for publishers, and focuses on the question of using a distributor and whether that option is best for smaller or medium sized independent publishers. If so, then what publishers might best benefit from using a distributor? If not, why is the choice a poor one. The paper provides a comparative analysis of each option in relation to itself and to others discussed.
