This session will give you an overview of Trends in Bookselling at Barnes & Noble, Inc, including Barnes & Noble.com. We’ll look at categories and formats that are trending up and those that are on a decline, with some commentary on why.
We’ll also talk about how a publisher can interact with the retail buying group, the website (www.bn.com), and the Barnes & Noble Distribution Center. You will learn about the BISG (Book Industry Study Group) standards, which Barnes & Noble has adopted, for data delivery, and carton and product labeling, essential information for delivery of books and book related product to all segments of the industry.
At the end of the session, you should have a clear idea of what you can do to maximize the sales opportunities for your titles at Barnes & Noble.
About the Speaker:
Marcella Smith is the Director of Small Press and Vendor Relations for Barnes & Noble, Inc. She got into the business over 30 years ago in Washington, DC, where she began working in an independent bookshop.
Since then she has worked in and managed two other bookstores, been a sales rep for St. Martin's Press and a Marketing Manager at Simon & Schuster. She is a former member of the Board of Directors of IBPA, the Independent Book Publishers Association and sits on the Small Press Center's Advisory Council.
