PMA mails members' promotional flyers to acquisition librarians throughout the U.S. The lists are purchased from Cahners (publishers of Library Journal
and School Library Journal) and all programs are mailed 3rd class bulk. PMA participants are included within the mailing list and will receive a complete copy so that they can track delivery time.
The Public Library program is currently mailed at the end of every month; the K-12 Library program is mailed every other month ; the College, Jr. College & University Library program is mailed every other month.
All mailings are addressed to the attention of the head acquisition librarian, who will distribute the flyers to the appropriate departments. Orders
will be placed through your wholesaler/distributor, and in some cases direct to the publisher. However, most librarians do not place orders direct to the publisher, since they wish to write one Purchase Order to one company and receive many publishers' titles.
Materials Needed For Participation:
Unfolded 8-1/2" x 11" flyers, printed one- or two-sides, not to exceed 100# paperweight. If you have an 11" x 17" flyer that has been folded to 8-1/2" x 11",
this may be included with the fee being doubled. 4,000 fliers are needed for the Public Library mailing, 4,000 for the K-12, 3,200 for the College and Jr. College & University Library mailing.
You will have ten days after the registration deadline to get your flyers to the mailing house. As an example, a mailing with a registration deadline of January 31 would be due on February 10 to the mailing house.
All programs mail 3rd Class Bulk mail within 20-25 days of deadline date. Approximate delivery time of program is 40-60 days after deadline date.
PMA will email you a confirmation letter and mailing address upon receipt of your registration.
Information To Be Included On The Flyer:
1. Category for Acquisition Librarian
2. ISBN and Price
3. Publishing Company Name & Address
4. A list of major wholesalers/distributors that carry the title
Note: It is also important to include parts of any significant reviews from the major trade media or influential and recognizable people in your book's field. Librarians may also like to see a replication of your Table of Contents page, along with a brief description of your title and bulleted points of how this title will help/inform their patrons.
